Archive for the ‘Reviews’ Category

I wrote game reviews for a few years for multiple different websites, unfortunately it’s been about a year since my last one, so bear with me if this is bad. The nice thing about having my own blog is I can do this review in whatever format I want, so I give you a list of Pros and Cons for NFL Blitz.

Pro:
Excellent gameplay. The fast paced action is just the right speed for a football game. A huge improvement over the Madden franchise, which seems like it can take forever to play a single game. In Blitz they keep the game moving, quickly jumping between plays.

Con:
No individual stats. At the end of each game you get team stats, but no individual players. Seemed kinda strange, but it’s not a huge surprise from a download game.

Pro:
7 player lineups. No cluttering the field with the normal amount of players. Each offense gets a quarterback, three offensive skill players and three linemen. The offensive skill players consist of the three most popular players from each team. Most teams have one running back, one wide receiver and one tight end, but a couple times I have seen two WRs or two RBs or a fullback. Then defenses consist of two or three linemen, two or three line backers and two or three deep backs. Once again the most popular seven players on defense.

Con:
Gameplay slowdowns. It doesn’t happen a lot, maybe once every three or four games, but it happens randomly when someone is getting tackled. The game slows down to about 1/4 speed for three or four seconds, then it’s fine. Not a huge problem, but it does take you out of the game.

Pro:
Extras. Fun little things like different colored footballs, individual players or entire teams full of things like horses or lions, power-ups or boss battles (against the teams of horses or lions). Also, no more “instant touchdown” plays, those stupid power-ups that guarantee you score or get a turnover.

Con:
No career mode or create a player. It’s completely understandable that they would leave things like this out to cut down on the game size, but I would still like some kind of season or career mode.

All things considered, it’s a good game for a budget, $15 title.
I give it three and a half Tebows out of five.
