DC Universe Online’s second expansion is scheduled to be released on December 6th, adding lightning powers to the mix and the Flash’s Central City.  It looks like players are going to get more to explore than Metropolis and Gotham with this expansion by adding new bounties and being able to witness the origin of  the Silver Age Flash, Barry Allen.

For all you free players, the price of entry is $9.99.  Legendary players get the expansion free as part of their monthly subscription.

Personally, I’ve been looking forward to this pack since it was announced.  I never really like playing a healer in MMOs but DCUO has found a way to make other classes than tank and damage dealers more exciting.  I’m definitely looking forward to trying out some lightning powers, but at the same time I know it will never measure up to what you get in Infamous.  Also, I’m taking a “believe it when I see it” attitude to the release date.  DCUO has been known for releasing content updates late with seasonal activities comically out of season.

Rick and Hershel from The Walking Dead Season 2

AMC's The Walking Dead features interpersonal squabbles and also sometimes zombies.

We’ve reached the mid-season break on The Walking Dead Season 2 and with no new episodes until the show returns February 12th, 2012, we might as well reflect a little bit on what we’ve seen so far.  It’s certainly been different from the first season and the Internet’s full of complaints about things like the slow pace but there’s also been some stuff that could lead to great television in the second half.

Internet rumors suggest Sony’s working on a Super Smash Brothers-style fighting game featuring their exclusive characters called Title Fight.  Most of the news so far hasn’t come from the most solid sources (a gaming forum and a martial arts blog) so take all this with a grain of salt but Twitter accounts of the alleged development team corroborate the story and a few early screenshots leaked, so there might be something behind this.

Twisted Metal Sweet Tooth in Sony's Title Fight

Character model of Twisted Metal's Sweet Tooth in Title Fight's development

The Playstation 3 game is allegedly being developed by SuperBot Entertainment, a newer Sony exclusive game studio.  Characters mentioned for inclusion so far are Kratos from God of War, Nathan Drake from Uncharted, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, Colonel Mael Radec from Killzone, Sly Cooper, Parappa the Rapper and Fat Princess, with many more names still to come.  It’s also rumored the game includes stages based on a LittleBigPlanet level and the Sandover Village from Jak & Daxter, along with Hot Shots Golf characters appearing in some backgrounds.

The gameplay itself supposedly closely resembles Nintendo’s Super Smash Brothers Brawl.  Moves are pulled off with the same style of simple button commands, not with Street Fighter-like control movement.  The X, Square, Circle and Triangle buttons are used to jump and attack, with the R2 button performing super moves.  Like the Smash Brothers games, characters can perform double jumps and stages are designed to let players knock each other off the sides.

There’s also an incredibly vague rumor that James Bond could be in the game, based on Sony Pictures’ participation in the upcoming James Bond movie.  The rumors suggest Title Fight’s release is due for around the same time as the film’s release date, along with God of War 4.  Current rumors indicate the Sam-Mendes-directed James Bond 23 hits theaters November 9, 2012, so that gives us a window to maybe expect all this stuff.

Again, take all of this as rumor until we hear from more solid sources.  The story originally broke on the Paul Gale Network and gaming forum NeoGAF has a great overview of all the Title Fight information we have so far.

Music Spotlight – Ceann

You’re the worst pirate, the worst pirate in the world. ‘Cause you’re a girl.

Pronounced “Key-Anne”, this American, Celtic rock group may first be confused for simply drinking music, but when you spend more time with their music you find some hidden nerdy subjects in there as well.  Mostly focusing on drinking, they also expand into pirates, vikings, terrorists and relationships of all kinds.I first became interested in Ceann back in the later days of MySpace. They requested my friendship based on some of the bands I was interested in, such as Cake, They Might Be Giants and The Barenaked Ladies.

Unfortunately for any new fans, the band is no longer together. On February 1, 2011, lead singer Patrick Halloran was killed in a car accident in Vermont and their website, now goes to a placeholder link.

If you’re interested in checking them out, I would recommend the songs: Pretty on the Inside, McGranahan’s Wife and Star of the County Down. They have three albums; Making Friends, Almost Irish and Rave, Rant, Lose Pants. Their later stuff, Making Friends, is a little better then the earlier albums.

BF3 box art

We finally have instructions for PS3 BF3 players to get BF1943 free.

Publisher EA acted quickly to deliver on their pre-release promise of Playstation 3 Battlefield 3 buyers receiving Battlefield 1943 for free.  All it took was a class action lawsuit threat.  While EA tried to sneak away from giving out the game, at least players will get what they were promised (in the form of vouchers for free game downloads).  Here are the dates for when Battlefield 3 players get Battlefield 1943:

November 26 for European players
December 10 for North American Players
December 17 for players in Japan and Asia

That’s right, this is a lost episode. Due to audio problems there will not be an episode 7.

Check back the week after Thanksgiving for episode 8.

PS3 Uncharted 3 Doughnut Nathan Drake

Uncharted 3 providing the ultimate immersive experience for the average message board troll.

While Uncharted 3:  Drake’s Deception was undoubtedly this fall’s biggest Playstation 3 exclusive, some fans are critical of one important aspect to the game.  Developer Naughty Dog changed the gun aiming system to make it more sensitive to analog thumbstick movement than the previous installment, Uncharted 2.  Rather than ignoring the critical feedback from Twitter and message boards, the developer brought in four fans of the series for help with a patch to tweak the system.
